What is Lakadong Turmeric?
Lakadong Turmeric is the name in India’s GI Registry for a registered agricultural product from Meghalaya. For a buyer, the name alone does not answer whether the requirement is for whole dried material or powder, how an active-compound result was measured, or which lot controls apply. A useful RFQ should describe the intended food or ingredient use and request evidence for the exact offered form. This page does not advertise a verified ExportsPod supplier or a fixed curcumin percentage.
Registered origin and GI scope
The GI Registry records Lakadong Turmeric as registered with Meghalaya as the geographical area. That public registration is distinct from producer authorization and the origin of any proposed commercial lot. Ask for a documented chain from the grower or processor to the material offered.
A GI registration concerns a named product and geographical area. It does not establish that an ExportsPod supplier is an authorized user or that a particular lot qualifies. Read the GI Registry's practice manual.
Product-specific buyer checklist
- Specify whole rhizome, cut material or powder, and the intended particle size where relevant.
- Ask how the material is dried, cleaned and milled, and whether processing happens before or after lot sampling.
- Define moisture, appearance and foreign-matter acceptance criteria in writing.
- If a curcumin claim matters, require a lot-specific assay rather than a regional average.
Tests and records to ask for
- Request the method, laboratory and date behind any curcumin result for the offered lot.
- Ask which microbiological, pesticide-residue and contaminant tests are appropriate for the destination and intended use.
- Check whether the sample, COA and eventual shipment share the same traceability reference.
Commercial and export questions
- Set out product form, quantity, pack barrier and destination before asking for terms.
- Confirm the supplier’s authorization and lot origin before using a GI-linked supply claim.
- Classify the exact traded form and agree destination documentation with the importer and exporter.
Questions by intended use
A spice blender and an ingredient formulator may ask for different particle size, colour, assay and microbiology controls. State the application and the analytical method that will be used for acceptance.

Buyer questions
Is every turmeric labelled “high curcumin” Lakadong Turmeric?
No. A curcumin result and the registered geographical identity are separate questions; ask for both lot testing and documented origin.
Should a buyer ask for a fixed curcumin percentage?
Set an acceptance limit for the intended application, then request a lot-specific laboratory result and method. This guide does not assert a standard percentage.
Does the GI record verify ExportsPod supply?
No. A supplier relationship, authorization and lot evidence must be checked before ExportsPod makes a GI-linked offer.
